January 2012 Newsletter

Shindeshojo

Dear Friends and Fellow Gardeners,

I am so happy to be writing you this letter! This was a dark December however, light prevails and the sun has come back bringing all of the promise of spring. The Spring 2012 catalog is on the way to your mailbox!

Miller Farms

The effect of the recent recession has been painful for all of us. The end result in the nursery however has been beautiful. We have focused on the trees and they have certainly responded. The trees are maturing into beautiful unique individuals. By selecting trees from each group specifically for growing in containers and pruning for the development of lower branches we achieve an overall smaller proportion, the perfect tree. After holding on to Kim’s rooted cuttings for 4 years we are offering a limited release of very choice cultivars for bonsai. Please email or call us if you have questions.

Mr. Sun

Would you like us to come to your local nursery for one of our workshops? We have recently been taking the show on the road and providing seminars and workshops on the Japanese Maples to select retail nurseries. Meeting all of you and sharing our passion for the trees has been revitalizing. Topics include ‘Growing Japanese Maples in Containers’ or ‘Selecting the Best Maple for Your Climate’. We bring a selection of the most choice trees and container gardens with us for the workshop. Call us if you have a local nursery to suggest.

Geisha Gone Wild

We pride ourselves on providing the most rare and choice cultivars as well as the most beautiful individual trees. Here are a few that have pulled at my heartstrings. Be sure to notice Mr. Sun in the new introductions, a unique and delightful new shirasawanum, great for colder climates. The A.p.Jade Gate have matured into beautiful young trees, they took my breath away this fall. Don’t miss A.c. Burgundy Jewel, it shows off in the summer sun with deep iridescent purple. And the surprising A.p. Geisha Gone Wild, all that wonderful pink color in a strong consistant tree.

New Rock Ropes

We have the new rock ropes available and they are more beautiful than ever with an incredible variety of polished stones with colors ranging from the softest pink quartz to the deep blue lapis lazuli and everything between. The detail of the copper wire wrap work is as interesting as it is long lasting. These ropes are larger and will compliment a tree in a container or the landscape.
We love to hear from you. Please call us if you have any questions.

Enjoy your Trees, Tricia

A tree uses what comes its way to nurture itself. By sinking its roots deeply into the earth, by accepting the rain that flows towards it, by reaching out to the sun, the tree perfects its character and becomes great.……Absorb, absorb, absorb. That is the secret of the tree. Deng Ming-Dao from ‘Everyday Tao’
