ACER palmatum Rugose

One of the few introductions by J.D. Vertrees, this tree is a favorite of mine for it's unique character in every aspect. Coarsely textured leaves emerge rosy mauve in spring, developing a red vein as the color transitions to a solid khaki green for summer. Fall is intense solid orange red. Most interesting is the upright, stocky, angular growth habit providing a great winter silhouette. Slow growing, though not difficult. Needs protection from hot afternoon sun.
